Treating heavy period once it's started

I just finished month one of trying prometrium the last two weeks of a cycle and it had no impact on my heavy bleeding (2 cups of fluid). Does it take months to work and lessen the cycle? I plan to keep on it to see if it helps. Any suggestions on what to take when/if I do start bleeding heavily next period? Shepherd's Purse or Vitamin K or Chlorophyll? I've tried turmeric all cycle as well and it has not changed the bleeding. I also have a fibroid. My Dr. prescribed tranexemic acid this time and said I could start on prometrium during my period to lighten the flow, but I would like to keep my hormones regular and not have progesterone in the first half of my cycle. Thanks for any help!
