Ideal ferritin level

What ferritin level do you recommend as ideal please?
I've heard different things from different sources, including that there are risks associated with higher ferritin levels.

I eat a plant-based diet and am in perimenopause with heavy periods. It has taken a lot of supplementation to get my ferritin above 40. My iron levels are otherwise normal. How much higher should I aim to go, to get the benefits without the risks?
