We talk of menstrual cycles, but it's more meaning We talk of menstrual cycles, but it's more meaningful to talk of ovulatory cycles because ovulation is the main event of the cycle, not the bleed.

In a healthy cycle, ovulation comes first, followed by a bleed almost exactly two weeks later.

Any other kind of bleed is either a 1) pill-bleed or 2) an anovulatory cycle -- neither of which have the same health benefits as an ovulatory cycle. (But it's okay to have the occasional anovulatory cycle.)

To be clear:
- It's possible to have a bleed without having ovulated. That's an anovulatory cycle or a pill bleed.
- It's not possible to ovulate without going on to bleed-- except in the case of pregnancy, hysterectomy, uterine ablation, or the hormonal IUD.

Interesting bit of health news about chemical resi Interesting bit of health news about chemical residue from commercial (i.e. restaurant) dishwashers. This will hopefully lead to improved technology, including an additional rinse cycle to remove the residue.

This does not mean you have to stop eating in restaurants. It's just information and a good reminder of how many factors affect health -- many of which are out of our control.
